Eloíno Nácar Fuster (1870 – 1960) fue Sacerdote español, catedrático y consultor de la Comisión Pontificia Bíblica.
Alberto Colunga y Cueto O.P. (1879 – 1962), Sacerdote dominico español, catedrático y consultor de la Comisión Pontificia Bíblica. Fue profesor en el Ateneo Pontificio Internacional “Angelicum” de Roma, en el convento de San Esteban y Catedrático de Sagrada Escritura en la Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca.
Miembro honorario de la Academia Teológica Pontificia Romana y consultor en la Comisión Pontificia Bíblica, nombrado por Pío XII.
Las ediciones católicas anteriores habían estado basadas en la Vulgata Latina mismo que algunas cono la Petisco-Torres Amat incluían en sus notas referencias a las variantes de traducción según los textos originales.
Mas de 30 ediciones avalan su popularidad, la mas actual es del año 2010. Las ediciones han sido presentadas en diversos formatos: en bolsillo, tamaño personal, tamaño pastoral y una grande con ilustraciones de códices medievales.
Los comentarios cambiaron después del Concilio Vaticano II y en algunos se ve un alejamiento de la doctrina católica; a pesar de eso el texto es elegante y con justa razón fue llamada la Vulgata española.
Tradicionalmente es una edición clásica y fiel a los textos en un español elevado.
El precio de esta versión es elevado mismo en la edición personal y de bolsillo. Teniendo suerte se puede encontrar en lotes de libros usados o por Internet.
